DermaSaver protectors protect fragile skin from damage caused by friction, rubbing, abrasion and pressure that could lead to skin breakdowns, tears and splits. DermaSaver products are made from innovative breathable MicroSpring textile that replaces foam, gel and fleece.
The MicroSpring textile fibre composition is 94% polyester and 6% spandex. DermaSaver Skin Protectors are
garment like and can be worn at all times, as or when required. You can wear them
in bed or in wheelchair and when walking. They are fully compatible with topical
creams and ointments. And because they are breathable, allow air circulation and
constant ventilation, they will protect the skin without the drawbacks of
bandages or dressings. Moisture wicking properties of the fabric ensure that the
skin remains dry and cool at all times.
DermaSavers are protected with Aegis Microbe Shield permanently bonded to the fibres. Aegis Microbial Shield prevents bacterial and microbial growth. It is a permanent protection that does not fade, wash out or leach and lasts permanently for the duration of the DermaSaver protector's life. Wearing body worn DermaSavers protects fragile skin from sustaining damage. DermaSavers can also help to heal existing skin tears, splits and lacerations without the restriction of bandages and dressings. DermaSaver non-wearable products can help to prevent pressure related soreness or surface abrasions on larger areas, such as the back, shoulders or buttocks. Sholom Home West, St. Louis Park, MN, USA Reported by Timothy Green, RN-ADON "Patient admitted to SNF on September 4th, 2007 with wounds to knees with pronounced open area to the left lower leg extremity distal to patella. Wet-to-dry dressing done twice daily. October 11th, 2007: Wound base 100% granulated. Wound on the left leg now measures approximately 5 x 3 cm. DermaSaver Shin-Knee tubes applied bilaterally with good tolerance noted. November 1st, 2007: A significant improvement to lower left extremity. No signs or symptoms of infection to peri-wound tissue. Wound on the left leg now measures 0.9 x 1 cm. No pain with DermaSaver tube changes and dramatic improvement seen since admission. No topical treatments were applied simultaneously. Wounds present on the right leg are also all healed. Patient and family members expressed delight with the DermaSavers used. The products applied (DermaSaver Shin-Knee tubes) were very comfortable and easy to use. The patient will continue to use DermaSavers at home."
Boyd Memorial Nursing Home, Carrollton, IL, USA Completed October 4th, 2007 In September 2007, due to agitation and mental confusion , this resident started banging his legs against the metal bars of the recliner chair, causing multiple skin tears.
Edwin Morgan Center, Laurenburgh, NC, USA Reported by Kim Byrne, PTA The resident is a 70 year old male with multiple abrasions/ bruising to bilateral forearms due to uncontrolled movements and skin conditions. Diagnosis of dementia, psoriasis, solar elastosis, xerosis cutis, dermatitis and pruritis were made. Resident was actively scratching, resulting in broken skin with active bleeding and bruising. Trials of ointments to alleviate itching were attempted. However, he continued to scratch, which lead to compromised skin integrity. “October 26th, 2007: Small DermaSaver Arm Tubes were issued. Areas improved with resident able to scratch at the outside of the sleeve without causing further skin injuries. The sleeves (Dermasaver Arm Tubes) were used in conjunction with Topicort and Eucerin cream. Wounds healed within two weeks with no open area or bruising to areas protected by DermaSaver Arm Tubes, decreasing risk of infection. There are red blotchy areas, which are due to the skin condition (psoriasis). However, you will notice that there are no scabbed or bruised areas. The DermaSaver products are soft, easy to apply and comfortable for residents and actually remain in the correct position unlike other products that we have tried.”
Core Nursing and Rehab, Bedford, IN, USA Reported by Alison Switzer, RN “We have several younger residents at our facility, who have the devastating Huntington’s chorea. The pictures are of a 41 year old female resident with Huntington’s. The progression of the disease causes uncontrollable and extreme flailing/ trashing movements that result in severe bruising and skin tears, especially to the upper and lower extremities. We have tried numerous interventions to prevent these injuries, including sleeves, knee and elbow pads, and surface pads and so on, but to no avail. Nothing was effective in eliminating the continuous bruising and skin tearing – until we tried DermaSaver products. DermaSaver has not only eliminated the severe chronic bruising on this resident, but we are also using DermaSavers on all our other residents with Huntington’s and achieving the same results. The first picture with the bruising was taken on the 19th October, 2007. The second picture was taken on 4th November, 2007. Originally, the resident was exhibiting new bruised areas and skin tears every week. Since she has been wearing the DermaSaver on her arms and legs every day, while in and out of bed, there has been no further bruising or skin tears identified. We are happy that we found this product.”

textile is a very special fabric. It is soft and springy with thousands of
microfilaments per square cm. It is breathable with ample ventilation
reaching the skin due to free air flow within microfilaments. MicroSpring
textile presents superior moisture wicking properties that enable speedy
transfer of moisture away from the skin. It is soft and stretchy and will not
flatten or crumble. It is washable at 950C (boiling wash) and can be tumble dried at high
temperature.
