Acticare TSE - Comparison between the TENS and the TSE Therapy Modes:

Acticare TSE delivers both TSE and TENS treatments. The TSE AND TENS therapy modes are separate and cannot be used together. The user has the option to choose the most preferable method of pain relief at anyone time.

Acticare TSE offers 3 TSE modes; 8 TENS modes including 2 HFT (High Frequency TENS) modes that are particularly helpful in the management of severe acute and chronic pains. Acticare TSE operates as a single channel TENS with 2 skin electrodes.

The TSE therapy mode of the Acticare TSE device is suitable for most chronic conditions and because of its superior effectiveness and simplicity of use, the TSE mode is the most recommended. However, the strong tingling sensation that can be felt in the TENS and HFT therapy modes also provided by the Acticare TSE can be often preferable and helpful with the management of new injuries or severe acute and chronic pain.   

Acticare TSE Drug Free Non Invasive Pain Relief Kit

Acticare TSE is powered by 4 rechargeable AA batteries. The charger cradle has 250 V AC +/- 10% and 50 - 60 Hz input voltage with 6V @ 1000 mA output. You can use Acticare TSE with non-rechargeable AA alkaline batteries - you may find this a very helpful feature, especially during travel or at time when access to mains power supplies is difficult.

In countries with different power supply Voltage - you will need to use a simple transformer. You can easily obtain such transformers from high street electrical stores. 

Acticare TSE has an inbuilt timer that has a factory pre-set 30 minute default. You can re-set Acticare TSE timer to between 10 minutes and 180 minutes treatment durations.

Historical Background  of TENS and TSE Electrotherapies
 
TENS - the Foundation of Modern Electrotherapy   TSE - the New 'Next Generation' of Electrotherapy
In 1967 Pat Wall and Ron Meltzack introduced their 'gate control' theory of pain reduction that led to the development of the first TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machines. TENS machines are now widely used to treat acute and chronic pain of many different origins. Albeit very successful, TENS therapy can sometimes require many hours of treatment and some people do not like the tingling sensation produced by the electrical micro current.

TENS therapy works by electrical stimulation of the peripheral nerves.

Shortly after the introduction of the TENS machines, a new technique based on a stimulation of the spinal cord was achieved by the use of implanted stimulators. This technique is called 'SCS' (Spinal Cord Stimulation) and it is successfully and increasingly used in the USA.     

  In 1991 Dr Alex Macdonald and Dr Tim Coates, inspired by TENS and SCS stimulators, succeeded in developing a non-surgical and totally non-invasive method of spinal cord stimulation. This technique was named 'TSE' (Transcutaneous Spinal Electroanalgesia). The TSE requires no surgical procedure of any kind. The TSE is effective and safe and can treat multiple pains anywhere in the body at the same time. TSE produces little or no tingling sensations, which many people find to be more acceptable and tolerable than the tingling caused by the TENS machines.    

TSE therapy works by stimulation of pain signals in the spinal cord and acts directly on the central nervous system.
