Acticare IC is a fully portable electrotherapy centre that provides multiple treatment modalities and a fully programmable advanced mode for self programming by users to personalised parameters, if required. Acticare IC is unique - it delivers the power output of a professional desktop electrotherapy device in a battery powered unit that can be carried round in your pocket. This is possible, because the Acticare IC uses a revolutionary method of digital waveform synthesis that is much more efficient than traditional designs. Acticare IC Interferential Modes The basic goal of interferential current therapy is to reduce unpleasant
sensation or discomfort that people can feel on their skin during low frequency
stimulation treatments. This sensation or a discomfort are due to the resistance
of the skin to the passing electrical currents. The level of discomfort is
inversely proportional to the frequency of stimulation. Hence, the lower is the
frequency applied, the greater is the discomfort felt. Interferential current
therapy uses two medium frequencies applied at the same time in such way that
their paths cross and interfere with each other. The interference between them
leads to changes producing modulated frequency that has the same therapeutic
effects as low frequency stimulation, but without the normal side effects of
unpleasant sensation or discomfort.
Acticare IC provides two channels of pre-modulated (two-pole) Interferential Current. The electronic pre-modulation ensures 100% modulation across the treatment zone. The modes on Acticare IC include eight preset programs and fully user programmable mode. Acticare IC maximum output is 100 mA peak current (70 mA RMS) shared between the two channels. Acticare IC offers four main clinical applications for which interferential therapy is commonly used:
Stimulation of motor nerves is possible with a whole range of AMF. Stimulation at low frequency (i.e. 1 Hz) results in repeated short contractions, while stimulation at 50 Hz results in a sustained tetanic contraction. Mild stimulation below that if sustained contraction (i.e. a sweep of 0 - 25 Hz) has been shown to give a combination of muscle stimulation, increase in blood flow and a reduction in oedema. Acticare IC and its Square Wave Modes There are three basic forms of square wave mode generated by Acticare IC:
Biphasic: a square waveform with equal positive and negative pulses.
Monophasic: a square waveform with single positive pulses.
Twin peak: a square waveform with two repeated positive peaks. In addition to sine-wave interferential, Acticare IC also supports a range of square wave output modes from 1 to 500 000 cycles per second. These modes are fully programmable and allow an almost unlimited range of therapy options to be synthesized. They include TENS modes, Acupuncture-like TENS (AL-TENS) down to 1 Hz, neuromuscular stimulation, burst and modulated modes, Transcutaneous Pulsed Radio Frequency (PRF) Therapy up to 0.5 MHZ and Transcutaneous Spinal Analgesia (TSE).

Acticare IC - Interferential, TSE and TENS Electrotherapy System
Amplitude Modulation Frequency (AMF) in the range of 100 - 200 Hz is
generally accepted for stimulation of the pain gate mechanism, which prevents
the pain signals reaching the brain, thus masking the symptoms of pain.
Stimulation with lower AMF (1 - 10 Hz) is used to activate opioid mechanism
(pain killing effects). Pain relief can also be achieved by blocking C fibre
transmission at AMF higher than 50 Hz.
